Integrative & Functional Medicine Physician | Classical Homeopathy | Naturopathic Medicine | Applied Kinesiology
Dr. Luc Maes, DC, ND, has practiced integrative natural medicine for more than 30 years, combining Classical Homeopathy, Functional Medicine, Naturopathic Medicine, Applied Kinesiology, nutrition, and biologic therapies into a comprehensive patient-centered approach.
Born and raised in Belgium, Dr. Maes was introduced to natural medicine at an early age through his father, a Chiropractor, Oriental Medical Doctor, and Physical Therapist who integrated emerging therapies decades before they became widely recognized. His father’s practice incorporated Functional Medicine, Laser Therapy, Ear Acupuncture, Applied Kinesiology, Homeopathy, and nutritional medicine while caring for patients ranging from individuals with chronic complex illness to elite athletes.
Dr. Maes’ own experience with asthma, allergies, and eczema during childhood profoundly shaped his medical path. After undergoing treatment with a physician specializing in Classical Homeopathy, he experienced significant improvements in his health, leading to a lifelong commitment to studying natural and integrative medicine.
After completing Pre-Medical Studies at Richmond College in London, Dr. Maes moved to the United States to attend the National College of Chiropractic in Chicago (now the National University of Health Sciences). During this time, he pursued extensive postgraduate training in Applied Kinesiology under Dr. George Goodheart, DC—the founder of Applied Kinesiology—and Dr. Wally Smith, DC. He further expanded his clinical training in Clinical Kinesiology, Magnet Therapy, autonomic regulation, and biologic medicine through studies with internationally recognized physicians and educators including Dietrich Klinghardt, MD, and Thomas Rau, MD.
Dr. Maes has dedicated decades to the study and practice of Classical Homeopathy. His early homeopathic education included intensive study of original Materia Medica and repertory texts from the lineage of Dr. James Tyler Kent, one of the most influential figures in classical homeopathic medicine.
His formal homeopathic training began with André Saine, ND, DC, and Francisco Xavier Eizayaga, MD, and later expanded through advanced studies with internationally respected homeopaths including Ananda Zaren, Roger Morrison, MD, Nancy Herrick, Jan Scholten, MD, Massimo Mangialavori, MD, Rajan Sankaran, Lou Klein, and Michal Yakir.
His work integrates traditional Hahnemannian principles with contemporary systems-based approaches to individualized constitutional prescribing.
Several years into clinical practice, Dr. Maes returned to graduate medical training to complete his Doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine at the National College of Naturopathic Medicine in Portland, Oregon (now National University of Natural Medicine), home to one of the largest homeopathic medical libraries in North America.
His postgraduate education has included advanced training in IV nutrient therapies, biological medicine, dark field microscopy, European thermography, neuroscience.
Dr. Maes began studying Functional Medicine with Jeffrey Bland in 1991 during the formative years of the field. His clinical approach emphasizes systems biology, nutritional biochemistry, the gut microbiome, metabolic health, environmental medicine, and the role of nutrition and botanical medicine in supporting cellular function and genetic expression.
